Commandant of Cadets, Unites States Military Academy

Brigadier General Garcia,

On behalf of the Hispanic Veterans Leadership Alliance (HVLA) I want to congratulate you on your appointment and assignment as the Commandant of Cadets of the United States Military Academy. This is an extremely important and influential position for the national security of this nation, and we welcome you as a strong leader of both ability and character needed to helm the Corps of Cadets at The United States Military Academy at West Point.

Your superb record of command at multiple levels, to include command of the 25th Aviation Brigade, Chief of Aviation Operations and Integration, and Commander, 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry provides a great foundation for this critical leadership position at one of our nation’s most important institutions. The future leaders of our nation that comprise the Corps of Cadets, deserve the best leader our nation has to offer, and we believe you have demonstrated that you are the best of the best.

The HVLA is especially pleased to celebrate your appointment as the first Hispanic to serve in this critical leadership assignment. This is long overdue and provides evidence to our Hispanic men and women of the Army that successful leadership can be rewarded. You are an excellent example to follow. Our young Cadets are going to have a superb example to follow.

The HVLA stands ready to assist you and all service academies with the professional development and mentorship of your Cadets. Our organization might be especially useful in assisting young Hispanics/Latinos and supporting Hispanic/Latino affinity groups at the USMA.

Congratulations again on your appointment. We look forward to your continued success as you shape the next generation of future leaders.Sincerely,

Signature of Joseph Medina, Brig Gen, USMC (Ret)
