#1 priority: engage members of Congress to champion for and drive change, whether through new legislation, the National Defense Authorization Act, establishing new mentoring and leadership development programs, and otherwise holding DoD accountable while ensuring improved transparency.
Built a coalition of national leaders from across the Latino community, from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to the American GI Forum to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, National IMAGE, Inc. and others.
HVLA has reached out to a number of media contacts to raise awareness and help elevate the discussion to the national stage. We have also drafted numerous op-eds, supported numerous interviews and participated in podcasts among other outreach activities.
Despite numerous attempts with senior leaders and the Secretary of Defence, the DoD has failed to take any meaningful action nor have they provided any of the demographic data requested by HVLA.
