Campaign Strategy
HVLA has a four-pronged campaign strategy, in order of priority:
Our number one priority is to engage members of Congress from both Houses to champion for and drive change, whether through new legislation, the National Defense Authorization Act, establishing new mentoring and leadership development programs, and otherwise holding DoD accountable while ensuring improved transparency.

HVLA has reached out to a number of media contacts to raise awareness and help elevate the discussion to the national stage. We have also drafted numerous op-eds, supported numerous interviews and participated in podcasts among other outreach activities.

In 2016, HVLA engaged with senior members of the Air Force, to include the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force and the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Ultimately, the Air Force took no meaningful action to address Latino disparities. In 2018, HVLA engaged with the Office of the Secretary of Defense through a series of letters, briefings, and meetings. Nearly two years later, the DoD has failed to take any meaningful action nor have they provided any of the demographic data requested by HVLA.
